In this talk, Dr. Yik Chan Chin, Associate Professor from Beijing Normal University and David Raho, PhD researcher at Sheffield Hallam University, will present the policy report they collaborated with researchers across four jurisdictions (UK, China, South Korea, Singapore) on “Interoperability in AI Safety Governance,” focusing specifically on the case of United Kingdom.

The report, developed through the United Nations University Institute in Macau, examines the ethical, legal, and technical aspects of AI safety governance in UK, China, South Korea, and Singapore. It highlights the essential role interoperability plays in reducing risks, fostering innovation, and promoting public trust across in three critical sectors: education, cross-border data flows, and autonomous vehicles. It offers practical recommendations to support a globally informed yet locally grounded AI safety governance ecosystem.

The presentation will share key findings of the global report, focusing on effective and proposed ethical, legal and technical interoperability draws on country studies from China, South Korea, Singapore, and the UK. It will also share the UK’s principles-based AI safety governance approach, international alignment efforts, and challenges in achieving cohesive AI safety standards, concluding with actionable policy recommendations to enhance interoperability aligned with global frameworks such as the UN’s Global Digital Compact.
